Rights and Permissions

We receive many requests to reproduce texts written or edited by our authors. These are generally described as “permissions.” To apply for permission, we ask that you send us an email with the information listed below. Please note that we receive a high volume of requests each year and although all requests will be dealt with as quickly as possible, it is important to apply as far ahead of your deadline as you can.

For permission to reproduce extracts from our book publishing imprint, New York Review Books, and for all other inquiries, please email permission@nybooks.com with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your company/institution
  • Full mailing address
  • Contact phone number
  • The article/book, issue date, author of the article/book, and word count being requested

If the work is being reprinted in a publication, please include the following information:

  • Article/Book title
  • Territory (e.g. U.S., Canada, Europe, Worldwide)
  • Editions (e.g. hardback, paperback, electronic)
  • Estimated print run of each edition
  • Estimated sale price of each edition

If you are seeking permission to use a text for use in academic studies, please include the following information:

  • Name of Professor
  • Title of course
  • Estimated students/photocopies
  • Semester of use
