To the Editors:
I owe an apology to Mr. Francis Steegmuller. In my article on Flaubert [NYR, April 20] I omitted to mention that Mr. Steegmuller had translated and annotated Flaubert's Intimate Notebook and had introduced Frank Jellinek's translation of Novembre; both valuable additions to his well-known work on the subject.
