In response to James Baldwin and the "Man" (February 1, 1963)
To the Editors:
Having been in the real estate business for several years, I thought that my power of involvement and interest in a new literary magazine was lost, or greatly diminished. After reading The New York Review of Books, however, I realized this was not true. It is a fascinating paper that I hope to continue reading for a long time.
The choice of F. W. Dupee's review of James Baldwin as lead article was particularly appropriate, I thought. It represents a type of review that becomes a work of art and creation in itself.
