Sheffer Was American

By Gerald J. Oppenheimer

In response to The Case for Decency* (July 13, 2006)

To the Editors:

Re John Gray's "The Case for Decency" [NYR, July 13]: Henry M. Sheffer was not British, but American and taught at Harvard for many years, starting in the days of William James. This is the least I can do for my admired teacher.
