In response to:

Detroit from the October 12, 1967 issue

To the Editors:

Since I kept no carbon of the letter I sent you on the Detroit riot (and which appeared in your October 12 issue) I cannot insist that an absurdity which appears in it is a typo. I prefer to believe that it is.

The letter reads in part, “I do not generally subscribe to conspiracy the ories but the Detroit police have repeatedly asserted that police officrs refuse protection to Negroes in the inner city in protest against controls placed on them.”

The sentence was intended to read “Negro leaders in Detroit have repeatedly asserted that police officers refuse protection to Negroes in the inner city….”
