In response to:

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie from the June 12, 1975 issue

To the Editors:

In Robert Craft’s recent collective review of books published in connection with the Thomas Mann Centenary (“The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie,” NYR, June 12), my wife and I were disturbed to see that our names were not listed as the translators of one of the volumes discussed: Katia Mann’s Unwritten Memories (Knopf, 1975). This was all the more disturbing since the translators of the three other books reviewed were duly noted. So, for the sake of consistency (if for no other reason!) we respectfully hope that you will take notice of us.
