Mark Danner & the Irving Howe Memorial Lecture

The fourteenth annual Irving Howe Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Mark Danner at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 18, in the Proshansky Auditorium of the CUNY Graduate Center, 365 Fifth Avenue (at 34th Street). The subject is “Escaping Bush’s State of Exception: Torture and Truth, Obama and Us.” Professor Danner, a regular contributor to The New York Review, teaches journalism at the University of California at Berkeley and is James Clark Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs, Politics, and Humanities at Bard College.

Sponsored by the Center for the Humanities, these lectures honor the late critic, editor, and political writer Irving Howe (1920–1993), who taught at the City University of New York from 1963 to 1986.
