Dolores in the East End

By Sheila Hillier

In response to Pottery (September 27, 2007)

To the Editors:

May I be permitted a small correction to Alison Lurie's entertaining piece ["Pottery," NYR, September 27]? "Dolores Umbridge" is indeed a brilliantly chosen name but she could not be suggestive of a "down-to-earth Cockney mum from Coronation Street," since that particular soap opera (if that is the reference) is set in Manchester. Cockneys inhabit Albert Square in Coronation Street's longstanding rival soap Eastenders. This piece of knowledge probably indicates that my time is more misspent than Ms. Lurie's.
