The Budapest Review of Books

Your readers may be interested in knowing about the newly established Budapest Review of Books. It is an English language version of BUKSZ, a critical quarterly of the social sciences and humanities founded in Hungary in 1989. Edited by some of Hungary's best-known younger intellectuals and scholars, including the historian, Gabor Klaniczay, its articles and reviews address major debates in Hungary today. The first issue of the English version has just appeared with an article by Katalin Sinkó on the changing reputation of the historical painter Mihály Munkácsy and a review article by Andrá Kovács on recent publications on the Holocaust in Hungary. Among the members of the international editorial committee are Peter Burke of Cambridge, Albert Hirschman of Princeton, Wolf Lepenies of Berlin, Jacques Le Goff of Paris, and myself.
