To the Editors:
Dr. D.L. Ouren points out that, contrary to a statement in my review ["Legacy," NYR, February 24], George W. Bush is not a direct descendant of President Franklin Pierce; he is an indirect descendant. President Pierce's children died without children of their own; Barbara Pierce Bush is a cousin.
