Surprise!

By Robert M. Stevenson, Reply by I.F. Stone

In response to The Threat to the Republic* (May 27, 1976)

To the Editors:

In Mr. I.F. Stone's review "The Threat to the Republic" [NYR, May 27], on page 4, column 3, first paragraph, he writes: "The CIA could foment the mob that killed Mossadeq in Iran." Sorry. Dr. Mossadeq died at an advanced age in his own home after spending many years under house arrest.

It is surprising to find Mr. Stone so careless with his facts.

Robert M. Stevenson

Isfahan, Iran

I.F Stone replies:

No one is more surprised than I.
