In response to:

Getting Out of Vietnam from the October 28, 1965 issue

To the Editors:

My attention was drawn to a letter written to you, and published in your October 28 issue, by a Mr. Tom Gervasi, from Random House publishers.

While I am touched by his enthusiasm for the subject of his letter (me), allow me to correct some of the statements he has made and which are totally contrary to the facts.

  1. I have never been, nor am I now, a “legal” or any other kind of “advisor” to the State Department or any other department of any government.

  2. While I have been to North Vietnam, I haven’t “roamed freely about” in it, because it isn’t the kind of place where anybody (natives included) roams freely about.

But at least my name was spelled right.
