Hanging by a Thread from the July 31, 1969 issue

To the Editors:

Friends here have drawn my attention to the fact that the name of the translator is not given in the heading of my review of Nathalie Sarraute’s Between Life and Death [NYR, July 31]. The translator is Maria Jolas, who has done all (I think) of the English versions of Mme. Sarraute’s books. Here, as usual, she shows an extraordinary fidelity to and understanding of the text.
