Recognize Cuba

To the Editors:

At this time, when the President of the United States has made an important trip to China, it is particularly appropriate to suggest that the United States government adopt a more realistic attitude toward other socialist countries, such as Cuba and the German Democratic Republic. The governments of these countries are stable, functioning political entities; they do not differ in any essential way from many countries we fully recognize at the present. We think it both inconsistent and futile to deny these political realities, and therefore urge the United States to recognize such governments.
