Old Man

Here is a man.
He lives in a house.
He is alone.
He looks in his glass.
His face is old.
He sighs & eats.
He goes to the wall.
Where is my fame?
he asks, & repeats
his name, his name,
his name, his name.
He will not stop.
He will not give up.

He looks in his glass.
He sighs & he eats.
Where is my fame?
he repeats & repeats.

He sleeps in a dream.
He wakes without sleep.
He walks to the hill.
He returns to his house.
What is my name?
he asks. He keeps
a list of his name.
He goes to the wall.
He reads the list.
There is more than this,
he sighs, & repeats
the name on the list.
He will not stop.
He will not give up.

What shall we do
with the old man?
