In response to:

The Illusion of Jewish Unity from the June 16, 1988 issue

To the Editors:

Arthur Hertzberg’s statement [NYR, June 16, 1988] that “Jews in America are the only ethnic minority that does not have a homeland” is patently untrue. The approximately one million Romani (“Gypsy”) Americans not only have no homeland, but never had Romani states in Europe or elsewhere created for them, and are the only ethnic minority in this country against whom laws exist.
