Bali H'ai from the October 24, 1991 issue

To the Editors:

In Bob Craft’s excellent review of Colin McPhee’s music [NYR, October 24], he states that the gamelan piece transcribed for western instruments was “Choreographed by George Balanchine.”

Rather it was choreographed by two Indonesian students, dancers in New York at the time with the soloist Ratna Mohini, who was the first wife of the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.

It was done in our series of Ballet Society at the Hunter College auditorium.
