Last year, in memory of Marie Syrkin, poet, essayist, teacher, and Zionist leader, the Marie Syrkin Fellowship in Letters in Jerusalem was established. The Fellowship is open to writers in all the forms, though the judges (Irving Howe, Cynthia Ozick, and myself) will honor Marie Syrkin’s preference for belles lettres over scholarly research. Applications should include a brief statement of the project for which the support is asked and a representative sample of recent work. They should be received at The Marie Syrkin Fellowship, 1220 19th Street NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC, 20036, no later than April 15.
