In response to:

The Presbyterian Nietzsche from the January 16, 1992 issue

In Benedetta Craveri’s review, “Women in Retreat,” in the December 19 issue, the first sentence should have read, “The first known female nude painting of the French Renaissance, a work of 1540 by Jean Cousin, confronts visitors to the Louvre with supreme indifference.”

Because of a typographical error in “The Presbyterian Nietzsche” [NYR, January 16], Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace was spelled incorrectly; it is Staunton, Virginia. Our apologies to Garry Wills.
