To the Editors:

The Center for the Humanities of the CUNY Graduate School, with the help of a gift from Max Palevsky, has established the Irving Howe/CUNY Memorial Fund honoring the late critic, editor, and political writer, who taught at the City University of New York from 1963 to 1986. The fund will help support a graduate fellowship, a dissertation prize, and an annual lecture in Irving Howe’s memory. The first lecturer is Professor Michael Walzer of the Institute for Advanced Study, who will speak on “Politics Out of Religion:The Jewish Experience,” at 6 PM on November 18, 1996, in the auditorium of the Graduate Center at 33 West 42nd Street. Anyone seeking additional information about the Howe Fund or the opening lecture can call the Center for the Humanities at (212) 642-2684.
