In response to:

Margaret Atwood's Tale from the November 2, 2006 issue

In Joyce Carol Oates’s review of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale [NYR, November 2], the character Offred is not named after her father but after her Commander, Fred; and the ceremonies in which handmaids dismember men are called Particicutions.
