Magic Mountains from the May 27, 2010 issue

To the Editors:

The caption to the photograph accompanying Tony Judt’s “Magic Mountains” piece [NYR, May 27] is unfortunately inaccurate. The funicular, nowadays replaced by a cable car, ran below rather than above Mürren. More precisely it operated between Grutschalp, near to and at the same altitude as Mürren, and Lauterbrunnen down in the valley below. And the view is not of the Jungfrau but of the other two peaks in that celebrated trio: the Eiger and the Mönch.
