In my review of Roberto Calasso’s La Folie Baudelaire [NYR, March 21], I stated, for reasons best known to my demons, that Manet never met Baudelaire. In fact, they knew each other well, and as Roberto Calasso has pointed out in a note, Manet was even one of Baudelaire’s creditors.
