To the Editors:

At the risk of stating the obvious [in Neal Ascherson’s review of Orhan Pamuk’s novel Silent House, NYR, February 7], isn’t the name Darvinoglu (“perhaps a private riddle belonging to the author”?) none other than Turkished “son-of-Darwin” (-oglu, a suffix signifying “son of”), or, in other words, an adherent of modernism as opposed to somewhat outdated Kemalism?
