To the Editors:

On Thursday and Friday, April 30 and May 1, The Center for Public Scholarship at The New School presents the 33rd Social Research conference, “Sanctions and Divestments: Economic Weapons of Political and Social Change.” Participants include Aryeh Neier, President Emeritus of the Open Society Foundation, and Suzanne Maloney of the Brookings Institute. Nicholas Burns, former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs, will give the keynote address. We’ll explore the ways in which sanctions and divestments have been used to influence policies on issues including climate change, nuclear disarmament and human rights. All sessions are free and open to the public. More information is available at newschool.edu/cps/sanctions-and-divestments.
