The Guggenheim Museum has promoted its current show, 'Russia!,' as 'the most comprehensive exhibition of Russian art ever shown in the United States.' 'With more than 275 objects,' according to the press release, 'this innovative exhibition features the greatest masterworks of Russian art from the thirteenth century to the present....' The first claim is certainly true. The only exhibition of comparable scope was 'Russian and Soviet Painting,' at the Metropolitan Mu-seum in 1977, which was a direct result of the Nixon–Brezhnev 'détente' communiqué of 1974.
