She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Center for Scholars and Writers Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, National Foundation for the Arts and New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships, and The Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis (German Youth Literature Prize).
