Markus Werner was born in Switzerland in 1944. He studied at the University of Zurich, then taught at a school in Schaffhausen until 1990 when he became a freelance writer. His prestigious literary awards include the Jürgen Ponto Stiftung prize (1984), the Prix littéraire Lipp (1995), and the SWF Bestenliste prize in 1997. He has published seven novels, including the bestselling Zündels Departure.
