‘The Classical Style: An Opera (of Sorts)’
Jeremy Denk, pianist and writer, fulfills his years-long fantasy of creating “An Opera [of Sorts]” around pianist and writer Charles Rosen’s brilliant book The Classical Style, which set the classical music establishment on its ear in 1972. Its passionate and footnote-free words remain required reading for any serious musician. But as fodder for a libretto? Denk thinks so (and with approval, he assures us, from the recently deceased Rosen). He was able to entice Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky into contributing the music, so for sheer curiosity value a must-see.
