Dark City, Open Country: The Films of Anthony Mann

One of the most muscular of postwar genre directors (Manny Farber called him “a tin-can De Sade”), Anthony Mann started on poverty row, and knocked out a number of fast-paced urban films noir before opening up the Western, making eight scenic examples with James Stewart as a life-battered protagonist. There will be two-fisted double-bills for eleven consecutive Fridays.

Double-features begin at 7 or 7:30 PM every Friday. For a full schedule, and to purchase tickets, visit the UCLA Film Archive’s website.
