Fritz Stern and Elisabeth Sifton at Politics and Prose

Fritz Stern and Elisabeth Sifton discuss their new book, No Ordinary Men: Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Hans von Dohnanyi, Resisters Against Hitler in Church and State, at Politics and Prose.

For Hans von Dohnanyi, resistance to Hitler was “the path that a decent person inevitably takes.” This was also true for his friend and brother-in-law, Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Both men lost their lives fighting against the Nazi regime. In recounting this story of courage and morality, Sifton, daughter of Reinhold Niebuhr and author of Serenity Prayer, and Stern, former Columbia provost and author of Five Germanys I Have Known, reveal new complexities about the situation these men faced.
