‘Whistler’s Mother: Grey, Black, and White’
There’s usually a crowd around it at the Musée D’Orsay in Paris, but this summer offers a chance to see James McNeill Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black No 1 in what should be less harried circumstances. The painter’s 1871 portrait of his mother goes on show at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts from July 4 until September 27, accompanied by a selection of his prints and drawings. And a bonus: an exhibit of Van Gogh’s landscapes hangs at the same place from June 14 until September 13.
