Comme des Garçons: White Drama
This exhibition of Comme des Garçons’ spring/summer 2012 collection—“White Drama”—is one of the first ever to display a designer’s current line. Created by the legendary Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, who founded Comme des Garçons in 1973, the clothes displayed here—christening robes, for instance, and a wedding gown—are all white, and all encased in clear plastic bubbles. Each article is meant to evoke “the great stages of life: birth, marriage, death, transcendence.” Kawakubo, based in Paris since the 1980s, was one of the most avant-garde and creative designers of the last twenty years of the twentieth century, and a decisive influence on the fashion world of the West. A must see.
Les Docks is open Tuesday-Sunday 11 AM-6 PM. Admission €7,50. For more information, visit paris-docks-en-seine.fr.
