Computer Chess’

The typically deadpan fourth feature by influential independent filmmaker Andrew Bujalski is a small movie with a cosmic and a comic novel premise: an annual two-day tournament pitting rival computer chess programs shares a hotel space with a “human potential” weekend. The movie is set in the early Eighties and the period feel is enhanced by Bujalski’s droll use of an obsolete video format.
