Daniel Mendelsohn with John Freeman at The Morgan Library and Museum
February 11, 2013, 7 pm
“For all criticism is based on that equation: Knowledge + Taste = Meaningful Judgment,” writes Daniel Mendelsohn, the acclaimed critic for The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books and internationally bestselling author of The Lost. With the proliferation of social media and blogs, is there a place for serious criticism in contemporary culture? To mark the publication of his latest collection of review-essays, Waiting for the Barbarians, Daniel Mendelsohn discusses the ethics and pleasures of reviewing with John Freeman, editor of the prestigious literary magazine Granta, former president of the National Book Critics Circle, and author of The Tyranny of Email.
