An Evening with Jan Morris
A benefit for the American Himalayan Foundation
In conversation with her longtime friend Don George, Jan will discuss the historic ascent of Mount Everest 60 years ago, as well as some of her other most memorable adventures and stories from more than a half century of exhilarated exploration.
Jan Morris is one of our most acclaimed travel writers and the author of more than 40 books, including Venice, Oxford, The Matter of Wales, Hong Kong, Trieste and the Meaning of Nowhere and The Pax Brittanica Trilogy. NYRB Classics has republished two of her books, Hav and Conundrum. As a correspondent for The Times, she accompanied the first expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953; serendipitously, her account announced the news to the world on Queen Elizabeth's Coronation Day.
