Thanks in good measure to Barbara Sukowa’s energetic performance in the title role, Margarethe von Trotta’s docu-dramatic account of Arendt’s Eichmann in Jerusalem and the whirlwind it reaped triumphs over its inherent absurdities and unavoidable simplifications. There’s never been a better movie-movie about New York intellectuals, nor another one that I can think of.
The film will also be shown in a variety of cities throughout the summer. A full schedule can be found on the official website
