IndieCade East
Selected by Gabriel Winslow-Yost
February 15, 2013 – February 17, 2013
The Museum of the Moving Image has long been ahead of its peers in paying serious attention to video games. This weekend it hosts IndieCade East, a festival of independent games with a quirky array of workshops, lectures, contests, and parties. Among much else: Brendan Chung's Thirty Flights of Loving, a dizzyingly compact and clever comedic spy game from last year (it featured what may be the best depiction of drunkenness in the history of gaming), will be the subject of a talk on Saturday afternoon. Sunday will include a lecture by Jesper Juul on video game frustration and "the Philosophical Problem of Being a Sore Loser"—QWOP, one of his examples, can be sampled in all its spastic, frustrating glory online.
For a full schedule, and to purchase tickets, please see the museum's website.
