A middle-aged guard in the Kunsthistorisches Art Museum strikes up an acquaintance with a woman who has come to Vienna to look after a seriously ill relative. Over the course of her stay, he shows her the museum and city. Experimental filmmaker Jem Cohen is known mainly for his unconventional music documentaries, and Museum Hours is equally difficult to characterize—neither a city symphony nor a love story nor a movie about Breugel, but a serenely eccentric way of looking.
Opens in New York on June 28, with other cities to follow. For a complete list of dates and locations, see the film’s website.
