The Royal Shakespeare Company, under the direction of RSC Chief Associate Director Gregory Doran, presents James Fenton's new adaptation of this classic play—sometimes called the Chinese Hamlet—which is thought to date to the fourth century BC. The first Chinese play widely known in Europe, The Orphan of Zhao (also known by its longer title, The Great Revenge of the Orphan of Zhao) follows the persecution and massacre of the noble Zhao clan by its rival, General Tu Angu, who unwittingly adopts the family’s sole survivor—the eponymous orphan—as his heir.

Playing 30 October 2012 - 28 March 2013. Tickets are available online from £16.
