Paul Lewis Plays Schubert

Selected by Geoffrey Wheatcroft

October 20, 2012, 7:30 pm

The late Philip Hope-Wallace of the Guardian was disdainful of much about modern times. “But we do live in an age of great pianism,” he would concede. That was in the 1970s, and he might say it twice over today, an age especially of great Schubertians, few more remarkable than Paul Lewis. Touring internationally, at venues famous and obscure, he has worked his way through the Schubert canon, and has now reached the three great last sonatas. He can be heard playing them from Barcelona to his native Liverpool, from Trieste to Portland, at Alice Tully Hall in New York on October 20 and Friday, September 28 at St George’s, the acoustically perfect Georgian church on Brandon Hill in Bristol.

Paul Lewis will perform at Alice Tully Hall on October 20 at 7:30 PM EST. For tickets, please visit lincolncenter.org. For more information on Paul Lewis’ international tour, please visit paullewispiano.co.uk.
