The latest film by Kazakhstan’s leading director, Darezhan Omirbayev, relocates Crime and Punishment to corrupt present-day Almaty and distills the novel to an austere ninety minutes. The economy and precision of the filmmaking is worthy of Robert Bresson, who is not only Omirbayev’s model but was another notable adapter of Dostoevsky.

Showing daily at 7 and 9 PM, with an additional 5 PM showing on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at the box office.
