Three Films by Corneliu Porumboiu

One of the strongest young directors of the new Romanian cinema gets a three-film retrospective, including his 2006 debut 12:08 East of Bucharest, his 2009 Police, Adjective, and his latest, When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism. The description “droll” does not do Porumboiu’s deadpan comedies justice. Perhaps there is a Romanian word to characterize his films’s combination of political satire, conceptual rigor, and dark absurdism.

12:08 East of Bucharest is being shown on December 2 at 1 PM, Police, Adjective on December 2 at 3 PM, and When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism on December 3 at 6 PM. For more information, and to purchase tickets, please see the Film Society of Lincoln Center website.
