Among other things, the Nazi seizure of power served to send what was then Europe’s leading film industry into exile. For the most part, Germany’s loss was Hollywood’s gain but, in addition to American movies by refugees Fritz Lang, Billy Wilder, William Dieterle et al, this month-long series includes film made by Robert Siodmak in France and Max Ophuls in Holland, as well as French or Hollywood remakes of Weimar classics like The Golem and M.
