Werner Schroeter Retrospective

Selected by J. Hoberman

May 27, 2012, 5:30 pm

The most over stimulating day of MoMA’s Werner Schroeter retrospective features consecutive screenings of two echt underground features by the German equivalent of Jack Smith. Bomber Pilot (1970) shot largely on a US army base, travestied both the Nazi era and Germany’s “economic miracle.” Willow Springs (1973), filmed in the Mojave, is Schroeter’s dreamy vision of a deadly desert commune. The unique Magdalena Montezuma is featured in both.

Tickets are free with admission to the museum, or can be purchased up to one week in advance at the main lobby information desk.
