‘Zero Dark Thirty’
Kathryn Bigelow, whose last film, The Hurt Locker, was the best Hollywood action flick of the twenty-first century, uses the killing of Osama bin Laden as the basis for an epic procedural, if not a contemporary myth, positing a CIA operative—the currently ubiquitous Jessica Chastain—who, in her single-minded obsession, is something like an American Joan of Arc (and perhaps a self-portrait).
Opens in New York on December 19, with wide release to follow on January 11.
