In response to:
Turkey’s Attack on Teachers from the April 21, 2016 issue
To the Editors:
The letter “Turkey’s Attack on Teachers” [Letters, NYR, April 21] asserted that the petition signed by 1,128 Turkish academics and intellectuals and made public at an Istanbul news conference on January 11, 2016, “called for a resumption of peace talks with the PKK.”
We regret that this was a mistranslation of a sentence in the Turkish petition that only called for “the government to prepare the conditions for negotiations and create a road map that would lead to a lasting peace which includes the demands of the Kurdish political will.”
