You think you have nothing
but you have devotion.
The muscles know it.
They almost
but don’t tear
with the same repeated
motion. There’s no fire
like the flints
of friction alone.
The flesh is willing
to wear down
to the bone, knowing whole
arm spans of space are taken
in the process, as if the body
at work becomes enormous
through its losses.
