‘Art in the Era of Mass Incarceration’
A new show at the Andrew Freedman Home, featuring art by previously or currently incarcerated artists, displays the diversity of forms and expressions that have emerged within prison settings. The exhibit includes work by Gilberto Rivera, who studied oil painting in a federal prison, and Dean Gillispie, who crafted detailed miniatures of buildings, vehicles, and dioramas over the twenty years he was incarcerated for a crime he did not commit.
