'Cathay'

By Charles Simic

In response to What Ez Could Do* (December 18, 2003)

To the Editors:

In my review of the Poems and Translations of Ezra Pound [NYR, December 18, 2003], I was not correct when I said that only ten of the fifteen Chinese translations in the original Cathay are included in the present volume. The remaining five poems are in the following volume, Lustra, which was published soon after Cathay and where Pound himself placed them. I regret the mistake (as well as the misspelling of William Jennings Bryan).
